In The News | Why Report
A commissioned piece of research to explore the understanding of the 'WHY' which underpins Chickenshed NYC's current strategy and practice.

OVERVIEW
This piece of research was undertaken to explore the current understanding of the ‘WHY?’ that underpins Chickenshed NYC’s strategy and practice, among a range of internal stakeholders. This project serves as an internal document to come to a closer collaboration within Chickenshed NYC itself.
This research will provide:
• A source of material to accurately describe the current impact of Chickenshed NYC activities, through the voice of its stakeholders.
• Additional Information to inform a strategy to increase this impact.
• Broad awareness of gaps in understanding among particular groups of stakeholders*
(*It should be noted that for meaningful reflections this would require further exploration with increased number of interviewees from each stakeholder group.)
METHOD
The data was collected through individual interviews and small focus groups. The interview guides were drafted by Chickenshed UK, defining the focus areas of the data collection, after which an external researcher carried out the fieldwork. This NYC based researcher had previously engaged with Chickenshed NYC, but was not known to the majority of the interviewees. A combination of in-person and online interviewing techniques were used to gather qualitative data. Interviews and focus groups were audio-recorded so they could be transcribed to be analysed in collaboration with Chickenshed UK. The interview questions and tools were designed to encourage the interviewee to consider the purpose of the activities of Chickenshed NYC, through each of their perspectives.
The research was gathered from 23 individuals in total:
9 Players (children and young people aged 5-18)
3 Interns (Young people aged 14-18)
3 Practitioners
2 Parent/carers
2 Board members
3 Staff members
1 Consultant
